8-function theory is a Jungian typing model most clearly spelled out in the work of analyst John Beebe. It holds that all eight cognitive functions are present in every person, but each type orders them in a fixed stack and gives each position an archetypal role. Beebe grouped those eight roles into four sides of the mind, often called quadrants: Ego, Aspiration, Shadow, and Superego. The more conscious Ego and Aspiration sides include Hero, Parent, Child, and Inferior (Anima/Animus). The less conscious Shadow and Superego sides include Opposing Personality (Nemesis), Senex or Witch (Critic), Trickster (Blind Spot), and Demon or Daimon. Pro never moves the assessment, the scores, or the base interpretations behind a wall. You are paying for convenience and depth around the test, not for permission to know your own results.

Do I need an account to take the test?

No. You can take the assessment and read your results without creating an account. Accounts are optional and useful if you want saved history, dashboard tools, or Pro features. Guest sessions exist because we would rather you take the test than fill out a signup form first.

Every format draws from the same calibrated item bank, so short and long tests rest on the same science. Quick (24 items) is a fast read for a first impression. Half (32 items) is a balanced option with moderate depth. Full (64 items) is our comprehensive default for a detailed profile. Masochistic is an extended format when you want maximum precision. Shorter means less precision, not a different method. Longer means more precision, not a separate product tier for the core score.

You answer on a 1 to 7 scale. Behind the scenes, each response maps through calibrated scoring into developmental percentages across your profile dimensions. Those percentages are not a rank against other test takers or a leaderboard score. They describe your pattern on fixed standards, on its own terms. Your result set includes individual dimension scores, overall development level, pattern likelihoods, likely mismatches, area averages, and development notes. The numbers describe you. That gives you results grounded in what your answers actually support, rather than a score that treats every question as equal when they are not.

How are validity flags calculated?

Validity flags are quality checks on your session, not judgments on who you are. We look at duration percentiles (fast, slow, cap), response patterns (line, same, erratic), development extremes (over, under), failed attention checks (unfocused), and pair consistency (inconsistent). Each flag uses statistical rules on your response data. Multiple flags can stack. They adjust confidence in your results so you know when to trust the read and when to consider a retake. What does the fast validity flag mean?

We compare your profile against pattern targets derived from the model behind the assessment. Likelihood scores reflect how well your measured pattern matches each target arrangement. You say free, but Pro exists. Which is it?
